Bonds of love become official on Adoption Day

WORCESTER — Andy Rosario has helped care for his niece, Alexis Cora Rosario, 2, since she was born. But it wasn't until Friday that a judge officially proclaimed Mr. Rosario as Alexis’ “Dada,” during National Adoption Day at the Worcester Trial Court. “I didn’t think it would be that different, but it really is. It’s just over the top — it’s amazing,” said Mr. Rosario, 44, of Southbridge. “She’s the best thing that ever happened to me.” Mr. Rosario’s mother, Maria Rosario, who also formally adopted her granddaughter, said she felt “great” after the adoption proceedings. She said she was fulfilling a commitment to her son, Alexis’ late father. “I made this promise to my son, and I kept it, and I’m going to keep it going on,” said Maria Rosario, 68. The Rosario family was one of 28 Central Massachusetts families who officially adopted 36 children on National Adoption Day. “This is the one day when every case heard has a truly happy ending, the creation of forever families,” Juvenile Court Judge Carol A. Erskine, herself an adoptive parent, said in the ceremony to commemorate the day.
