Christmas Angels are up for adoption

1 of 2 Christmas Angels are now officially up for adoption in the Twin Counties. These angels are part of the Angel Tree program sponsored each year by the Salvation Army of Rocky Mount. On Tuesday, Christmas Angels were added to the Angel Tree near Santa’s workshop at the Golden East Crossing mall and another Angel Tree was placed in the lobby of the Rocky Mount Telegram. By next week, Christmas Angels will be available at the Golden Corral Restaurant and other area locations yet to be confirmed. Lt. Dawn Whitaker, who manages the Angel Tree program for the Salvation Army, said there are more Christmas Angels in need of help this year than in years past. “Last year, we had 985 Angel Tree children that we helped. This year, we have gotten requests to help about 1,500 children,” Whitaker said. “Many of the requests are from Edgecombe County, which was hit hard by the flood, and we had more requests from the Hispanic community this year.
