Probate court celebrates Michigan Adoption Day

(Journal photo by Kelsie Thompson) MARQUETTE — Tuesday was an unusually joyful day in the Marquette County Probate Court. Colorful decorations adorned the hallway and courtroom and guests smiled and conversed over cupcakes and punch. They were celebrating Michigan Adoption Day. “Right now in the state of Michigan there are about 16,500 kids in foster care,” said Probate Judge Cheryl Hill. “There are, at this point, almost 300 ready, willing and available for adoption, so we try to get the word out that there are children that need their forever families.” That day, Hill said she finalized three adoptions. “It’s the best part of my job — I just love it,” she said. “It’s...
