Clifford The Big Red Dog Leads Kids To Love Of Books The Manchester Public Library hosted 'Take Your Child to the Library Day,' which included a visit by Clifford the Big Red Dog, on Feb. 4. The library continues to promote parents reading daily to their child. The event featured arts and crafts, coloring and, of course, reading about Clifford, who greeted the children and posed for photos. Children's Librarian Leila Canceolieri said the day gets families out of the house during the winter months. The library holds several morning story times each week, including story times for babies, 1 to 2-year-olds, and 3 to 5-year-olds. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings, the library hosts drop-in story times. Saturday morning is reserved for another drop-in story session. The library has partnered with the Manchester Early Learning Center on several literacy initiatives and a "Math at Bed" program for kindergartners and first graders. The program focuses on different subjects like shapes, patterns, or measurements. "Just things where kids are having fun and not realizing they're using math," Canceolieri said.
