Deputy steps in after kids' shoes stolen

Mother's shopping bags, purse stolen out of stroller in mall parking lot GRETNA, La — Jefferson Parish Reserve Deputy Tate Lefort's shift Thursday night at Oakwood Mall in Gretna, Louisiana, was routine until his very last call. “She was flustered to say the least,” Lefort recalled. “A little disappointed that someone would go so far as to take something out of a stroller.” He was talking about Ava Hightower. The busy mother of five had left the stroller, with her purse and all of her shopping bags, in the mall parking lot.
