Eric Houghtaling: YMCA Kids Classic planning on track

Although it’s only January, planning for all of the nuts and bolts for the 21st annual YMCA Kids Classic is full-steam ahead for the event organizers. This year’s Kids Classic is scheduled for April 22, with all of the races taking place at Dietz Stadium in Kingston. The event features track races for youngsters from pre-school to sixth grade, and early entry fee is a mere $5 for all participants. “The lineup is the same as last year,” said Kids Classic director Eleni Dedovich. Advertisement “We are looking to open online registration from our website on Feb. 1 so that parents can easily register their children at their convenience.” The popular Y26.2 program, which has youngsters completing the marathon distance with the final mile on race day, is slated to begin on Feb. 4 and will follow each Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the YMCA. Participation in the Y26.2 is free for all registered entrants. Local youngsters can also take part in the annual Kids Classic T-shirt contest, as organizers select a winning design for this year’s shirts.
