Missing Virginia Beach mom, 2 kids were found at off-the-grid “eco-village,” father confirms

Kevin Lamping said he picked up his 7-year-old son at an “ecovillage community” in Black Mountain, N.C., where the boy, his mother and half-sister apparently were found Wednesday. “I can’t even explain it,” Lamping said Thursday of his reunion with Kai. “To go from the worst feeling in the world to that. It was something.” Lamping said he saw his ex-wife, Monica, and her 9-month-old daughter, Oria, when he picked up his son, but only talked briefly with her and did not go into details about what happened. He said Monica Lamping did not have her cellphone with her. “I don’t want to say too much right now,” he said. “There are a lot of details that the detectives and the Fire Department will have to sort through.” Monica Lamping’s family reported her and the children missing Sunday morning, hours after a fire swept through her rented home on Sullivan Boulevard in Virginia Beach.
